Picky eating

One common issue that kids (Logan specifically) with ADHD faces is their picky eating habits. These kids often have difficulty trying new foods, which has been a huge thing with Logan. For a long time we were stuck in the habit of only eating chicken and spaghetti, and really there are only so many variations of those two dishes. Sticking to a balanced diet is a major challenge, and picky eating can lead to nutritional deficiencies and other health problems.

When Logan was diagnosed I did a ton of research and tried to learn as much as possible to help him. Much of the research suggests that there are several reasons why kids with ADHD may be picky eaters. Some studies have found that these children have an increased sensitivity to taste, texture, and smell, making them more likely to reject certain foods. Others suggest that the impulsivity and distractibility associated with ADHD may make it harder for these kids to focus on eating or regulate their appetite. With Logan the second is Logan's biggest obstacles. Just trying to get him to sit long enough to take a bite is exhausting.

Last Thanksgiving he was running through the kitchen, loud and fast, taking my stress level to another level. Finally, I stopped him and asked him to stir for me and since then he's been wanting to help cook more and more. He even calls himself "Chef Logan". Now that he's cooking more, he's trying all kinds of things I didn't think he ever would. I'm creating a section dedicated to recipes. They are all ones that he was able to help out with and ones that he liked!
